Tohickon Creek Again
Twice a year, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PA-DCNR) schedules a controlled release of water from Lake Nockamixon into the Tohickon. This creates up to class IV rapids for whitewater kayakers to enjoy for the weekend and draws enthusiasts from all over the Mid-Atlantic region. Continue Reading…

Whitewater at Tohickon Creek
Twice a year, the DCNR releases surges of water from the dam at Lake Nokamixon into the Tohickon. This creates class III-IV rapids along the course and a mecca for local kayakers (as well as some from as far away as Maine). I spent Sunday (November 2) near Cabin #4 (a good vantage-point for what is purported to be some of the best rapids on the creek) shooting kayakers, rafts, and a few unexpected swimmers. Now, I’m a native Floridian, so the water’s much too cold for me to even consider trying this, but it was a great time watching (and photographing) others.
