Catching up…

So here it is – October…and my last post to this site was back at the end of last year.

“Let me explain…no wait, it’s too much…let me sum up”:

This has been a difficult year in a number of ways. While last year went gang-busters as far as events to photograph, lots of wonderful clients, and a digital ton of images captured, it consumed a huge portion of my time and self. This past year I had vowed to reduce my work load somewhat to focus on family and other events going on in my life.

To wit, I only photographed a handful of shows this past season so far and forwent the exciting, but tiring, job of attempting to capture the bulk of competitors at Dressage at Devon this year. I still have lots of images that I’m still processsing, and slowly posting, from Devon – but it was significantly fewer that past years.

A number of personal events have occurred in my life over this summer that make me need to pause and rediscover my passion for equine photography. To that end, I will be taking an extended hiatus over next season in order to reconnect myself again with the amazing job that is equestrian photography.
I may still take a limited number of shows and/or private shoots, so feel free to contact me if you’re interested in having my photograph your horse or event – and those of you with interesting ideas for private shoots should contact me! I’m always up for a creative endevour that catches my interest!

I’ll also likely attend a number of shows to photograph for my own enjoyment as well as to cheer on past clients and friends. People who I dearly cherish, and who have been so very supportive of me and my work in the past, and I still have a couple of events scheduled this year where I will be photographing: including the USDF-recognized Dressage at the Bucks County Horse Park V show coming up o Saturday, October 20th, as well as a couple Horse Trials with Digital Expressions Photography by Laslo at BCHP, so drop by and say hello and to sign up for photographs to be taken.

I’d like thank you all for your support, patronage, and interest in my work over the past four years and I’ll see you all again, hopefully with the passion burning again.

A “Post-Wedding” Photo Shoot….with horses

Krista and Simon

One of the young ladies at my wife’s barn went and got herself hitched a few weeks ago.  It’s a strange experience, since over the past ~10 years of marriage to Virginia, I’ve gotten to know a number of her young students.  Many of them are starting to get to that age where they are looking at college, moving out from their parents, and starting homes and families of their own. Makes me feel old… Continue Reading…

Catching Up (again)

SONY DSC

So, as usual, I’m running behind on the blog as I keep busy shooting and processing orders (as well as adding in a few family functions as well). Instead of doing a single post about the various events I’ve covered since my last post, I’ll be spooling them up to post individually over the next week or so, beginning this Sunday.

Upcoming posts will cover:

  • Dressage at Devon
  • USEF-recognized Horse Trials at BCHP
  • A “post-wedding photo shoot” with the bride, groom and the bride’s horses
  • BCHP Dressage Championship (and USDF Region 1 Adult Team competition)
  • The Essex Fox Hounds Opening Meet
  • The RRF end-of-year banquet (with my annual slide show video)
  • A couple of art images that I’ll be offering for sale
  • Holiday dates and deadlines (and maybe a couple of specials)
  • …and the upcoming BCHP end-of-year awards banquet (if I don’t run out of steam by then).

Photos from the public events are available in the Galleries section of my website, and I’ll provide direct links in the various posts.

Another Spring Foal

Last week, I spent an evening at Kim Kobryn Callaway’s Callaway Farm in Ottsville, PA photographing their latest foal – a gorgeous filly by Royal Prince. One of the things I love about Kim’s farm (beyond all the beautiful Hanoverian horses) is that there’s always at least one field where the grass has grown long, and it’s usually full of little yellow wildflowers. This always lends a pastoral air to photographing her foals and gives my images a little more color. Continue Reading…

Winter Portraits

Wintertime is not traditionally when people think of equine portraits, and yet it’s a perfect time to get great images! Continue Reading…

Coming Soon, and a New Photo of the Day

I’ve been working on a couple of posts on recent sessions that should be up within the next week or so:

  • Snow Horse and Human Portraits
  • Fall Horse Portraits
  • Sleigh Driving at Mountain Pride Farm in Haycock Twp

For the moment though here’s a composite of some detail images I’ve been playing around with.  These are all very close-up images of the same horse (from a friend’s farm). It makes for an interesting departure from the “standard” horse portrait!
