Our local photography club was discussing ways to involve our membership a few months back and fellow board-member, Henry Rowan, had made a suggestion about having monthly challenges where members would post an image; “correct” it to the best of their ability; solicit comments; and then “improve” the image based on the ideas that came out of that. Specifically- as photographers, we know that although we attempt to get the “best” image right in the camera, photographers have always shot based on the final output and manipulated that image afterward (whether using Photoshop or chemical means in the darkroom).
The fun thing is that this coincided with a challenge on an equine photography group, to which I also belong, about creating an “art” print. I guess it was destiny…
Virginia and I were at the Bucks County Horse Park year-end banquet last night, and I have to say it was a fantastic evening out. The staff at BCHP (especially Cass, Jacqui, and Lorna) really did a FANTASTIC job of arranging the evening and keeping everything running smoothly through-out the night. Virginia presented awards for the Children’s Equitation division (since she and Rainbow Ridge Farm had sponsored the class and provided the trophies).
Virginia also picked up her Champion ribbon and trophy for earning first place in the Eventer Division this season to the hoots and hollering of those at our table!

Congratulations to my wife, Virginia, and to all the competitors who worked so hard this year at BCHP!

Like many “semi-professional” photographers, I still hold down a non-photographic day job to pay the bills while I build up my photography business. When the weekend comes and I have a chance to pick up the camera, however…well, let’s just say it brings a smile to my face.
The previous month has been a busy one for me. I shot two shows (for Digital Expressions Photography) and a little for me (add to that, getting ready for the beginning of the season for the Doylestown Photography Club – of which I’m a board member).
The shows were a blast and my personal barometer of the economy is indicating that it’s picking up (sales are up from both shows over last year – at least, slightly).

About a month ago, I promised a few more images from the Carriage Driving show at Bucks County Horse Park, and I’ll admit that I’ve been a bit slow in fulfilling that promise. The recognized show the following week went well and so consumed my time for the following week with culling, post-processing and fulfilling print orders, that the blog had to take a back-seat for a little bit.
One month after the show, I’m proud to announce that the wonderful competitors from the “Driving for a Cure” event have raised $166 $186 (with one more last-minute order) for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation for a Cure via print purchases (I’ve been offering to donate 50% of print sales from that event to the charity). Thank you to all that ordered prints and I hope you enjoy them for many years to come!
